HomeWord Center for Youth and Family

Earlier this school year APU launched the new Center for Youth and Family, which is a research and training and training institute dedicated to providing biblically-based resources to parents and youth.

Alumnus Jim Burns, Ph.D. is joining the Center for Youth and Family at Azusa Pacific University. The new center will continue the vision of equipping parents and youth with the tools to build healthy families. APU is committed to providing the excellent resources that you trust throughout this transition.

Jim Burns founded HomeWord in 1985 to respond to the overwhelming need of families and parents. HomeWord is a Christian organization that partners with adults around the world to provide them with assistance to help young people make wise decisions and lead intentional, God centered lives. They seek to build God-honoring families that advance the work of God in the world by educating, equipping and encouraging parents and churches.

Jim Burns, Ph.D., is President of HomeWord and host of HomeWord’s 30 minute daily radio broadcast, 30 minute weekly broadcast, one hour weekly broadcast, and the one minute daily broadcast. Each weekday in cities across America, over a million people hear Jim through his radio ministry to families. He speaks in-person to thousands of people each year around the world with a message of hope for families. Jim and his wife, Cathy, and their daughters Christy, Rebecca, and Heidi, live in Southern California.

“Jim Burns is one of the leading experts on issues surrounding youth, marriage, and the family. We view the Center for Youth and the Family as a legacy move for Azusa Pacific and are thrilled to have an alumnus lead this great effort,” said David Bixby, Ed.D., APU executive vice president.

“The Center for Youth and Family at Azusa Pacific is poised to be the finest training center for those who lead the church in youth and family ministry. It will be very exciting to watch this unfold,” said Burns.
